How teams work

Form a team and enjoy reduced rates, here’s how it works.

1. Find your teammates

Talk to your neighbors and friends down the street about the benefits of composting their food scraps. Once you’ve found at least 3 households to participate, you’re ready to form a team.

2. Pick a team captain

The team captain will be the person responsible for signing up as a team. They will submit the one payment method for our service charges and be responsible for collecting payment from all individual member households of the team. The captain will also be the single point of contact with the Compost Exchange for any support needed.

3. Select a central spot for the buckets

Pick one spot where all team members will place their bucket each week for pick-up. This could be a member's porch, curb or another central spot.

4. Start composting!

Once you sign up as a team, we'll deliver our liner loaded buckets to your selected spot the next week. If any members on your team aren't sure what to compost, that’s ok. A complete list of what you can and can't compost is right there on the buckets!

5. Pick Up Day

On pick up day, leave your buckets at the team’s agreed upon location. Our driver will remove food scraps from all buckets and swap the liners for fresh ones. If some team members are away for a week or simply forget to put their bucket out, no worries, we'll just get it the next week! Note: the best compost comes from fresh food scraps - your buckets do not need to be full to set out.

6. Managing the team and other benefits

If more neighbors become interested and would like to join your team, you can contact us to add members at any time. Also, each team member (upon request within 30 days of subscription renewal) receives a portion of our EPA-tested compost to give their garden a nice boost each year.

“The Compost Exchange has been a great experience and my only regret is that we did not join up sooner.”
